For Shopify stores, we recommend reviewing URLs with query parameters and using Path exclusion to exclude duplicates. This helps preserve your audit quota so accessFlow can scan more of your website’s distinct pages.
Why duplicate URLs appear
Shopify can add query parameters to URLs when visitors select product options, such as sizes or colors. accessFlow detects each URL as a separate page, even when only the selected product option changes. This can cause:
- Repeated scans: Multiple versions of the same page use your audit quota, potentially leaving other pages unaudited.
- Higher page counts: Your website may appear to have more pages than it actually has.
- Unexpected new and deleted pages: URLs with changing timestamp parameters can appear as new pages, while URLs with older timestamps appear as deleted pages.
Exclude duplicate variant URLs
Use Path exclusion to exclude URLs with the parameter that creates duplicates pages.
- In accessFlow, go to Settings > Audit path management.
- Select Path exclusion.
- Select Add exclusion rule and configure the following:
- Exclusion rule name: Enter a descriptive name.
-
Exclude pages: Set the condition to Where Web path or Query parameter contains and enter the parameter name followed by
=, such asvariant=.
Make sure the rule leaves at least one URL for each product eligible for scanning, such as the original URL without the parameter.
- Select Run Exclusion Check and review the pages that will be excluded.
- Select Apply Exclusion.
If other parameters create duplicate URLs, such as changing timestamps, add separate exclusion rules for those parameters.
Only exclude URLs that show duplicate content. Some query parameters lead to distinct content you may want to audit.
