accessWidget offers a set of pre-built accessibility profiles, groups of tailored adjustments designed to support users with specific disabilities or access needs. These profiles give users a quick way to personalize their browsing experience without need to adjust settings individually.
When a visitor selects a profile, the interface automatically applies a combination of content, color, and orientation adjustments best suited to their needs. These changes are session-based, meaning they only affect the visitor's experience during their time on your site, without altering your site’s design for other users or impacting the experience for other users.
Why use profiles?
Accessibility isn't one-size-fits-all. People with different disabilities encounter different barriers online. Profiles in accessWidget are designed to address common challenges by offering ready-made combinations of adjustments, no searching, toggling, or guessing required.
Users can easily customize their browsing experience in a way that works for them, and website owners can offer accessibility without compromising branding or layout.
Available profiles
Here’s an overview of the accessibility profiles available in accessWidget:
- Seizure Safety – Limits animations and adjusts color combinations to minimize exposure to flashing and visual patterns that may trigger seizures or discomfort.
- Low Vision Support– Enhances contrast, spacing, and visual presentation to make content easier to see and navigate for people with low vision and anyone who benefits from clearer visuals..
- ADHD Friendly – Limits visual clutter and distractions so you can focus more easily on key content and navigate with greater ease.
- Reading & Cognitive Support – Supports reading, comprehension, and focus, making content easier to process and navigate.
- Keyboard Navigation – Navigates the website using your keyboard, including shortcuts for headings (H), graphics (G) to jump to key page elements.
- Screen Reader Compatibility – Improves navigation, structure, and compatibility for people who use screen readers - tools like JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack that help read digital content aloud. A screen reader is software that is installed on the user’s computer and smartphone, and websites should ensure compatibility with it.
- Older adults - Adjusts text size, contrast, and reading guidance while limiting animations to create a calmer, easier browsing experience.
While each profile applies a set of tailored adjustments automatically, users can also add extra adjustments for full customization.
Prefer to set adjustments manually?
Profiles are helpful shortcuts, but users can also fine-tune their experience manually. The interface includes individual controls for:
- Content adjustments – Font size, spacing, alignment, and more.
- Color adjustments – Contrast, saturation, and color schemes.
- Orientation adjustments – Mute sounds, hide images, and pause animations.
This flexibility ensures that all users, not just those who match a profile exactly, can customize their browsing experience.
